Pastor's Welcome

Dear Friends,

Welcome to our website! We are a church located in the heart of Athens along South College Street and across from the city parking garage. Our church is also in short walking distance to the Ohio University campus.

We are affiliated with the United Methodist denomination which spans throughout the globe. John Wesley, and his brother Charles were 18th century priests in the Church of England and started the Methodist movement which eventually became a new denomination here in America in 1784. First UMC was founded in 1800 so we have a long history in sharing the good news of our faith here in southeast, Ohio.

Our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of our community and world. We do this by providing ministries that help us to grow in having a Loving Faith where we worship God and care for one another, a Learning Faith where we use our minds to grow in our understanding of the Christian faith, and a Living Faith where we serve others.

We are an inclusive church and welcome all to participate in our ministries and events! In addition to our weekly Sunday worship services and ministries, we host several Ohio University of Music concerts each year.
