Registered nurses provide free intensive care navigation, education and support for Medicaid-eligible pregnant women and teens through the Family Navigator program. Navigators understand the wide variety of challenges that women in southeast Ohio may face. RN navigators assist their clients with linkages to social services such as WIC, home visiting, housing/shelter, food assistance, childcare and more. Assistance with medical needs can also be provided, including referrals for assistance with substance use disorder, mental health, dental care and pediatrics.

FUMC has donated 107 handmade baby blankets to the Family Navigator Program at O.U. this past year. The blankets go to high risk, low-income pregnant women as a gift. The program assists these women throughout their pregnancy through education, advocacy and helping them navigate life's tough circumstances in order to have a healthy pregnancy and baby.
If you would like to participate in this ministry on 1st SATURDAYS or at home, on your time by ironing, pinning, and/or sewing the hems, please contact Martha Sloan at msloanmom@gmail.com.

Supplies Needed to Make a Receiving Blanket
1 yard flannel fabric (Church is using 1 ¼ yards of flannel fabric. Martha Sloan has precut material if you would like to use it.)
Matching thread
Sewing machine
Iron
Ironing board
Instructions (Please watch the video above.)
Begin with 1 ¼ yard of flannel fabric.
Trim off the selvage edges. (The selvages are the uncut sides of the material and one will say Joann. Cut the side off with Joann logo on it. I use scissors.)
Place your fabric wrong side up on an ironing board.
I set the heat to cotton setting on the iron and let it warm up before I press the hem.
Fold up the edge about 1/4-3/8 of an inch.
Press in place.
Fold the edge again about 1/4-3/8 of an inch.
Press in place again.
Repeat for all four sides of the blanket.
Using a straight stitch sew along all edges of the blanket.
Clip any lose threads.
Return blankets to Martha Sloan so she can attach the label from the church. (Contact me at msloanmom@gmail.com or 740-541-2701).
