1 Timothy 4:12
Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.
Meet Our Interim Youth Director Hey Guys! My name is Mark Barkett and I am a senior at Ohio University majoring in Chemistry/Pre-medicine. I will be attending medical school in late-July but until then I will planning fun events and activities with the Youth council for the summer!
Here is just a little bit about me…
In high school, I played football (defensive back and nose guard), ran track (pole vault), was in the marching (alto), symphonic (bassoon), and jazz bands (tenor) and also was involved in Science Olympiad (an awesome place for nerds to compete in rocket and robot making). Since graduation I have spent most of my time playing video games, reading books, and hanging out around the church. I also enjoy watching movies, scuba diving, backpacking, caving, running, and playing games. If you have any ideas of fun things to do, have ANY questions about God, the bible, or life, or just want to hang out some time send me an e-mail: markbarkett@aol.com
Adult Volunteer Opportunities
Sunday School Teacher: Teach a series of 3-6 weeks of lessons. Topics may include a theme study on contemporary issues (i.e.: relationships, music, spiritual disciplines), a Bible study (Book of John, comparison of gospels), or other. May we all be God-bearers for our children and youth! You are welcome to come with an idea or simply with your willingness to lead with a prepared lesson.
Youth Event-Shepherd: Join with the youth and youth directors as we play, pray and serve in God’s world.
Youth Event Host: Share your home and/or talents with our youth. What is your gift?
Prayer Partner: Join with the youth in prayer around their joys and concerns. Uplift them in their growth, discernment, choices, and connection with church, community and world.
Confirmation Mentor: Meet with one younger youth weekly to share together in talking about who God is! Get to know one another, visit with guided worksheets, continue conversation in the area of most interest to your mentee.
BE-Attitudes for YOUth Volunteers:
Be in study, Be in prayer, Be caring
Be attentive, Be genuine. Be yourself
Our youth have said, BE fun! And be creative but not crazy and out of control! And PLEASE don’t just have us take notes from the Bible.
It’s not so much about doing as it is about being with…
