Welcome, Alumni!
Wesley Student Center has a long and rich history
In 1924, the Wesley Foundation was established in the facilities of the First United Methodist Church and continued without interruption until 1955 when the church was destroyed by fire. During the rebuilding, the ministry continued and returned to the new facility when it was opened in 1958.
In 1971, the West Ohio Conference decided that campus ministry should focus on ecumenical efforts. Thus the Wesley Foundation shifted to become part of the United Campus Ministry at Ohio University .
First United Methodist Church Births Wesley Student Center
Even after Wesley Foundation became a part of United Campus Ministry, the interest in ministering to students never left First United Methodist Church. Thus, in 1983 the Wesley Student Center was designated as First Church's student ministry program.
Through the years, thousands of Ohio University students have been involoved in Wesley activities, which have included Wesley Choir, The Wesley Players, Conferences, Retreats, Civil Rights Marches, Kappa Phi, STE (now AEX), Bible Study, Service and Mission, Adopt-a-Student, Midnight Breakfast, and International Student Activities..
We are interested in hearing from WSC/WF Alumni
We would like to hear your stories, see your pictures--learn more about your experiences while you were at OU and involved with WSC or WF--and post some of those stories and pictures on this web site.
We'd also like to set up a mailing list (both email and US mail) to help keep the alumni informed about the current ministry of Wesley Student Center and life here in Athens. Plans are underway to publishly a yearly newsletter. We have also begun a tradition of hosting an alumni reception during the Ohio University Homecoming Weekend.
Please contact us, and, if you know others who were involved here at one time, please let them know about this web site and that we would love to hear from them.
