Hello from your local crew!     March 24, 2010

We are enjoying the time together here in Athens. We’ve met with 3-4 different ministries that help with food, shelter, life skills, re-using household items, and drug/alcohol recovery. All this happens right here in Athens!

We also cleaned up and rearranged the youth rec room and met some nice people at Monday Lunch.  I appreciated meeting Noah who is very good at memorizing names and alphabetizing things.  I also liked talking with Steve who enjoys photography and traveling to the Smokey Mountains in TN.

Each night we have a dinner challenge that our youth must meet to make their dinner.  This afternoon we had an ice cream treat and the Ping Pong tournament has been a hit!

Thanks to all who have supported our local journey!

We had fun at Re-Use industries and Monday Lunch and are looking forward to the tomorrow at Re-Use.  We cut wires and lift boxes full of computers at Re-Use.  At Monday Lunch we washed dishes and served.  On a side note I am starting to get good at ping pong.

Tomorrow is our last day for the local Mission trip. I have enjoyed it much more than I thought I would, it has been nice getting to know Nathan and Ryan and also has been nice to get to hang out more with Kevin. We learned about Good Works and all that they do and are excited to possibly help them in the future with Friday night Life!!! They value relationship building over just helping people. We also were able to help Allene with Monday Lunch, she is an amazing woman, God bless her for all the work she puts into caring for those whose are less fortunate than us. We also went to Re-Use Industries and even though a power outage shortened our work day we were able to get a good amount of work done and hope to put a full day in tomorrow. Finally thank you so much to all those who made this and Nola possible. Both Nathan and Ryan are looking forward to being able to go to New Orleans next year, thank again

It is the end of day #2 of the local missions.  It has been a great time of learning about the local organizations that help people in many different ways.  Our visit to Timothy House and Good Works, inc. was extremely rewarding for me.  Today’s work at Re-Use Industries was quite fun and interesting.  Because of a power outage, our day was cut short at Re-Use; however, we used the time to visit and find out about “The Refuge”, a place that helps men recover from drug and alcohol addiction.
