Maundy Thursday Potluck
Maundy Thursday, April 17 6 pm “At the Table”: As we remember the
evening when Jesus gathered the disciples for a Last Supper in the Upper Room,
join with the church family for a potluck in the Fellowship Hall. As dinner concludes,
we will share in Holy Communion. Bring a main dish or a side dish/salad to share,
plus a loaf of bread that will be shared as part of dinner and Communion.

Good Friday Services
12 Noon Community Worship: Join congregants from area churches for a community-wide ecumenical service of worship as we
remember and reflect on Jesus’ final hours. This service will be held at First Christian Church, 24 W. State St., Athens.
7 p.m. “Voices in Jerusalem”: Our worship will retrace the journey of Jesus’ last week and the twenty-four hours that changed
the world through the story of scripture and the voices of persons who encountered Jesus in his final days. A poignant and reflective service
as we offer our voices in song and prayer with thanksgiving for the greatest gift of all.
Easter Sunday Morning
9 a.m. Heritage worship “The First Service of Easter”: An adaptation of the ancient Paschal Vigil service, this service has
both historic and symbolic roots in the Jewish Passover, and borrows many images from the Old Testament. In the Service of Light and
Service of the Word,we will experience the passage from slavery to freedom, from sin to salvation, from death to life as we welcome the risen Christ.
10:30 a.m. New Traditions worship “An Easter Celebration!” After a Lenten season of “Giving it Up for Good”, we will celebrate Christ’s Resurrection and
hunt for more than Easter Eggs. You’ll find good news shared in song and word, in fellowship and service. Might there be hope, joy, and love in an empty tomb?
One Church, 2 Worship Options
At First United Methodist, each Sunday morning worship experience offers a unique expression of faith. At 9 a.m., the Heritage Worship service utilizes classic hymns and liturgies in the intimate setting of the Chapel.
At 10:30 a.m., the New Traditions Worship in the Sanctuary includes a breadth of song and liturgy, and the Chancel and other choirs. The same Scripture-based message will be provided at both services. Join us Sunday morning to worship!
