Need an Air Conditioned Space in which to Worship?  If you appreciate the comfort of air conditioning, we invite you to join us for worship Sundays at 8:45 a.m. in the Chapel. With the exception of the special music, the order of worship is usually the same as the 10:30 service..

Looking for Direction in Your Life? Lack of clarity may be one of the biggest stumbling blocks of our current time. This seems to result in saying yes to anything that comes our way. Does that seem to happen more times than you’d care to admit?

One way to bring clarity to your decision-making process is to seek the answer to this question: “What is my God-Given-Purpose?” Have you spent quality time on this question? Have you clarified it in such a way that you see it reflected in your calendar, your bank records, how others speak of you?

Pastor Mary Jo is offering you an opportunity to explore this by participating in a “Focused Living Retreat.” This summer it is being offered in a 3-Mondays-in-a-row format.

Dates: August 9,16 & 23

Time: 6:00-8:30pm

Place: First Floor Lounge

Please contact Pastor Mary Jo personally to sign up:  yeakel@firstumcathens.org   or  (740) 707-0898.

Church Building Often Locked after 1 p.m. During the Summer  While our office hours will not change during the summer (Monday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.), we will continue our tradition of locking the building at 1 p.m. most days. If you need to stop by after 1 p.m., please check ahead to make sure the building will be open (593-3977).

Kroger Reports only 31% of Households Have Reinrolled in Rewards Program   Wesley Student Center benefits from the Kroger rewards program. Just recently we received a check for $468.13 that will help fund the next WSC Mission Trip.

Kroger changed their method for enrolling people in this rewards program earlier this year. We know that many of you have re-enrolled, and WSC really appreciates that!

If you would like Kroger to give WSC 5% of your purchases, all you need to do is sign up via their web site:  www.krogercommunityrewards.com  Follow the on-line instructions.

Unless you enrolled on line last year, you will have to create a new account. Have your Kroger Plus Card handy. The Wesley Student Center account number is: #83759

Our Next Stephen Minister Training Begins October 18  Stephen Ministers encourage and provide emotional support to people who are going through a difficult time. The major way you extend care is simply by listening to your care receiver. It may not sound like much, but it’s huge to someone who is going through a difficult time.

Stephen Ministers receive extensive training on how to do this. Through the reading materials, lectures and training exercises covered during the training sessions, trainees learn how to actively listen, to offer care in a non-judgmental way, and leave the rest up to God.

We learn early in our training that a Stephen Minister isn’t expected to “fix” the problem. That’s God’s job. God is the cure giver; Stephen Ministers are the care givers – we are faithful to extend the care, and God does the rest.

If you would like to learn more about Stephen Ministry or receive a Stephen Minister’s care, please contact Sharon Fink, Dick Schelat or Pastor Mary Jo or visit our web site at www.firstumcathens.org/stephen. The next training class will begin October 18.

Sound Operators Needed    Have you been looking for a way to be a part of our 10:30 worship services but don’t want to be one of the people up front? Then we hope you’ll volunteer to be one of our sound operators. If you can operate a cell phone, you can operate our sound system. Experience isn’t needed. Brandon is happy to show you how to operate it and will work with you to be sure you feel comfortable before going “solo”.

Folks usually serve one Sunday a month on a regular rotation (i.e., the 1st Sunday or the 2nd Sunday, etc.) with the flexibility to trade when conflicts occur. Adding one or two more volunteers to our crew would be very helpful. If you’re interested, please note that on the pew attendance card, contact Brandon Saunders (707-4945 or brando@bcsengineering.com) or the church office (593-3977).

Sermons Broadcast Live on WATH     Remember, if for some reason you can’t be in worship on Sunday, tune in to WATH (970) at 11 a.m. and hear that portion of our service broadcast live on the radio. Sometimes they begin the broadcast at 10:30 a.m., so be sure to tune in a little early.

Prayer Chain If you have prayer requests, please call 593-7471 or 593-6853 to have your request placed on the church’s Prayer Chain.

Free Parking on Sunday Mornings  Parking in the Municipal Parking Garage is free on Sundays. IMPORTANTUnless you’ve been given special parking privileges, be sure you park in a space that has a parking meter!!
